To satisfy India’s requirements, 40,000 persons have to donate blood every single day
LifeBlood Council works to ensure there is a positive balance of blood units in blood centres across the country at all times.
Initiative / 01
Organise blood donation drives
We organize blood donation drives in commercial, educational and religious institutions, community centres, residential areas and public places across the country.
Initiative / 02
Respond to calls from patients
We respond to requirements from patients and their families and friends, and direct them to the appropriate Blood Centre. If needed, we identify blood donors from our registry and request them to donate blood.
Initiative / 03
Provide training to blood centre personnel
We provide training to blood centre personnel to ensure that the protocol laid down for blood donation drives, end to end, is understood and implemented uniformly.
Initiative / 04
Liaise with government authorities
We liaise with different departments of the government to work towards blood adequacy and ensure the implementation of India’s National Healthcare Policy.

Build a registry of granulocyte and platelet donors
We organise awareness sessions in educational institutions, commercial establishments and residential areas and enrol people on the granulocyte donors registry and platelet donors registry.
Initiative / 06
Build a registry of Bombay blood group donors
We interact with blood centres and hospitals to build a registry of persons with the rare Bombay blood group and help organise blood units to help patients, even from other cities if necessary.

Did you know?
- You can donate blood even if you are diabetic, but your sugar levels must be under control with oral medicines
- You can donate blood if it is more than 90 days (for males) and 120 days (for females) since your last blood donation
- You can donate blood if you haven’t had malaria in the previous 6 months

Anywhere in India
First option
Go to www.eraktkosh.in. Click on Looking for Blood > Blood Availability. It will provide a list of blood centres which have the required blood units in your location.
Second option
Go to www.eraktkosh.in, click on Looking for Blood > Blood Bank Directory. It will provide a list of blood banks in your city. Call the nearest one and check for availability of the required blood units.
In Maharashtra
First option
Go to www.mahasbtc.org, click on For Citizens > Find Blood Stock. It will provide a list of blood centres with the required blood units in your location.
Second option
Go to www.mahasbtc.org, click on For Citizens > Find Blood Centre. It will provide a list of blood centres in your city. Call the nearest one and check for availability of the required blood units.
As a last resort, contact LifeBlood Council for a list of donors.
